Get ready for this whirlwind trip filled with stunning natural sights and magnificent, historic architecture paired with hearty Central European cuisine and unmissable coffee culture. You shouldn't leave Vienna without tasting the Sacher cake or go to Bled without having a piece of their famous Bled cream cake (kremšnita).
Start in the Austrian capital of Vienna, a city of opposites – jaw-dropping Baroque and Gothic architecture next to modernity; Vienna's present and past stand next to one another with style. Start your tour with the Imperial Hofburg, a grand palace in the centre of Vienna, built by the Habsburgs, the Austrian ruling dynasty. Hold on to your wallets while walking down Mariahilferstrasse as you'll want to enter every shop on the way and taste the local delicacies. The Ringstrasse, a circular grand boulevard encompassing the city's very heart, is a home to the City Hall, the Parliament building, the National Theatre and State Opera.
Going south, your next stop is Slovenia's capital of Ljubljana. Ljubljana could rightly be dubbed „the city of dragons“ for its many statues of these mythical creatures perched on bridges built over the Ljubljanica River. The charming centre of this historic city is easily walkable, full of cobbled streets and elegant architecture. High above the city lies the Ljubljana Castle like a steady, formidable guardian. Bled Lake is only an hour away; spend a day walking around the lake or taking a boat ride accross and visiting the Bled Castle.
Your final stop on this three countries' trip is Croatia's capital of Zagreb, only a two-hour car ride from Ljubljana.
Set below the Medvednica Mountain, Zagreb is comprised of two historic parts – the clerical Kaptol, recognisable for the white spires of the Gothic Cathedral, and Gradec or Grič, the Medieval old town, fortified and originally accessed through six gates, of which only one remains today. You'll notice the interesting contrast between the old and the new – the elegant Upper Town with the St Marco's Church and Croatia's Parliament building in its heart, and the buzzing Lower Town full of restaurants, bars and green areas. Zagreb is a home to some of the most unusual museums you'll ever visit, like the Museum of Broken Relationships or the Museum of Illusions.
