Lošinj is known for its striking bays and its main town, Mali Lošinj with its large natural harbour. A colony of more than 100 dolphins has made their home off the island of Losinj and can be seen from ferries and boats. The island has many churches which house a collection of art works including Italian baroque and modern Croatian paintings. Scattered along its beautiful coastline are many sandy beaches with the most famous Veli Zal beach which has been awarded with Blue Flag status for the quality of its clean sea.
Lošinj remains largely unspoilt as one of Croatia's undiscovered gems and is definitely worth a visit to this wonderful island as a standalone holiday or for a day trip as part of a longer multi-centre Croatian holiday. Losinj can be reached by catamaran from Zadar and Pula and across the island of Cres which connects to Losinj by tiny bridge at Osor, it is so small that people often don't even notice crossing it.
