Šipan is the largest of the Elaphiti Islands, located northwest of Dubrovnik. Sipan is most well known for its wine and for its laid-back way of life. The island can be easily reached from Dubrovnik and is well worth a visit for its pretty picturesque waterfront and quaint fishing villages. The island is home to a number of historic buildings, including the fortified church of the Holy Spirit dating from 1577 and the parish church which contains several 15th-century paintings. The island has a number of gravel beaches, not as sandy as Lopud, but quiet enough to find a spot to sit back and relax by the sea.
