Makarska Riviera

Makarska has a rich cultural and historical heritage as well as some superb sea views and a fascinating hinterland.

For the energetic, there are numerous facilities close by, such as tennis, volleyballand as well as a huge range of kinds of watersports in the crystal clear sea.

There is a large modern tennis centre, situated close to the beach which is a well known venue for international tournaments.

Makarska is also a health resort, with the recreational and health centre of Biokovka, which offers various therapeutic services.

There are some lovely walks along the small harbour beaches. Mountain lovers can take one of the numerous mountain trails to the peaks of Biokovo Mountain.

At the summit, there is an excellent view down to the beach and across the sea.

The town of Makarska itself a small port and town in a large horseshoe shaped cove and gives its name to the entire Riviera area. It has a historic centre with the a new area which has plenty of hotels, restaurants, shops and bars.

To the north-west is a large park and pine forest, which surrounds an 1,500-m long beach at Donja Luka. Further along the sparklingly clean coastline are numerous sandy coves, separated by natural limestone crags.
